Abstract
This study will provide an in depth interpretation and
comprehensive historical background to the Gerasenes demoniac story found in
the synoptic Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke). The first chapter will follow
modern biblical scholarship’s contributions to its interpretation. The second
chapter will include a verse by verse study of the text and its historical and
social backgrounds. The last chapter will explain some of the main themes of
the story and why this story would be important to the early Christian community.
